Testing two competing hypotheses for Eurasian jays’ caching for the future

چکیده
Abstract Previous research reported that corvids preferentially cache food in a location where no will be available or more of specific this not available. Here, we consider possible explanations for these prospective caching behaviours and directly compare two competing hypotheses. The Compensatory Caching Hypothesis suggests birds learn to particular places was less frequently the past. In contrast, Future Planning recall ‘what–when–where’ features past events predict future availability food. We designed protocol which hypotheses different patterns across locations such can disambiguated. formalised Bayesian model comparison tested experiments with one previously species, namely Eurasian jays. Consistently experiments, observed pattern did support either hypothesis; rather it best explained by uniform distribution caches over locations. is needed gain insight into cognitive mechanism underpinning corvids’ future.

Western scrub-jays (Aphelocoma californica) have been shown to overcome present satiety to cache food they will desire in the future. Here, we show that another corvid, the Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius), can distinguish between two distinct future desires and plan for each appropriately, despite experiencing a conflicting current motivation. We argue that these data address the criticisms ...

this thesis is based upon the works of samuel beckett. one of the greatest writers of contemporary literature. here, i have tried to focus on one of the main themes in becketts works: the search for the real "me" or the real self, which is not only a problem to be solved for beckett man but also for each of us. i have tried to show becketts techniques in approaching this unattainable goal, base...

The cognitive abilities of animals continue to fascinate both scientists and nonscientists. Although the abilities of the primates, our closest living relatives, generally attract most interest, several different lines of research have demonstrated high levels of intellectual capacity in birds, particularly corvids. The members of this family are known for their large brains and have performed ...
